Electromobility and market development in South America
São Paulo, July 2017 – Dürr's Commercial Vehicle Conference took place for the third time: following events in Germany in 2014 and China in 2015, more than 60 representatives from well-known Brazilian commercial vehicle manufacturers accepted Brasil Ltda.'s invitation to meet in São Paulo on May 23. During the one-day information and networking event, industry representatives enjoyed a mix of presentations and demonstrations on commercial vehicle production.
At the Commercial Vehicle Conference, Dürr wants to offer participants more than just information on its own technologies and products. Therefore, six speakers from Brazilian OEMs explored many different aspects of the industry. Representatives from BYD, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo Trucks, LEAX, Ford and Caterpillar talked about technical issues, processes and the market development in South America. Their range of topics included the effects of electromobility on production as well as case studies of successful new plants and modifications.
Dürr offered some insights into current developments for powertrains, paint application and final assembly. Its subsidiary, Schenck, which specializes in balancing technology, presented its highly specialized machines in operation during a tour of the manufacturing facility. From its paint systems range, Dürr presented, among other things, the new ready2spray robot for general industry and the simple yet effective paint separation system, EcoDry X. In addition, Dürr presented its final assembly solutions, in particular from the filling and testing technology fields, as well as systems for lower-volume production, plus a comprehensive service offering.
There was plenty to talk about at the conference, and that's what it's all about. "We want to offer a platform for people to get together and discuss current challenges and issues in the market", explains Andrea Klein, Global Customer Director for Commercial Vehicles at Dürr.
The South American market is facing considerable challenges at the moment. The political crisis in Brazil and its effects on the economy have also left their marks on the automotive industry over the last two years. The market is not expected to gain pace again until late 2017 and over the course of 2018.
Dürr as a partner with long-term experience in the Brazilian market – the subsidiary in São Paulo, founded in 1964, was its first foreign subsidiary – sees the development in a positive light. "In the current economic climate, we perceive our customers' feedback on the conference as a special sign of confidence", says Paulo Sentieiro, Vice President Sales & Marketing at Dürr Brasil Ltda. "It makes sense for us and our customers to keep the dialog going."
And the feedback was positive: customers praised the breadth of topics presented, and expressed an interest in coming back next time. The conference was held exclusively in Portuguese, which the participants also appreciated.
Speaking the local language is one of the maxims of the Commercial Vehicle Conference. Dürr launched the event, held in Germany in 2014, in German. The second event took place in China in 2015 and was held in Chinese (with simultaneous interpretation into English). Participants certainly find it easier to have discussions in their own language.
