Cleanliness is a key quality factor for more competitive edge
December 2012 – Parts cleaning is an indispensable part of the production process since cleanliness is a key quality factor for more competitive edge. Accordingly, the industry is looking for cleaning solutions to achieve the required standard of cleanliness in a reliable, cost-efficient, and environment-friendly manner. Here, Dürr Ecoclean comes into play with its 3-tank solvent-based cleaning equipment.
Organic solvents are commonly used as a cleaning medium where highly oil-contaminated or difficult-to-dry parts are involved, or where downstream process steps require oil-free surfaces. The 3-tank solvent-based cleaning equipment by Dürr Ecoclean, for example, cleans workpieces with organic solvents. A three-stage cleaning process is carried out in the work chamber. In a first step, dirt particles, chips and oils are removed from the parts. In stage two and in the downstream steam degreasing unit, the surfaces of the parts are fully degreased to a cleanliness factor in the range of 200 to 500 µm. The third tank is intended for preserving the parts. After vacuum drying, a thin corrosion protection coat remains on the parts. The single-step version of the equipment is used in pre-cleaning or degreasing between production processes.
The development efforts of Dürr Ecoclean focus on the optimum utilization of the different solvents and the constant improvement of the cleaning process. This means in particular a reduction of cycle times, the continuous treatment of solvent, the use of heat exchangers to save energy, and the reduction of the solvent consumption.
