New chassis geometry measurement system
December 2012 – Since 2009, Dürr Assembly Products has been offering a test rig for measuring commercial vehicles; now, a separate portfolio range has been introduced. In the frame of the new product line Commercial Vehicle Testing (CVT), the chassis geometry measurement system x-wheel truck d for commercial vehicles has been developed.
This measuring and setting system measures the relevant parameters like toe and camber at the front and rear axle at a favorable price. The non-contact measurement offers reproducible measuring results. Thus, also the requirements in the determination of the driving direction can be met, which are higher today because of the driver assistance systems.
This is of particular importance as an increasing number of driver assistance systems will be required by law in the future, for example distance control or brake assist systems. These systems can detect dangerous situations automatically. They alert the driver or brake autonomously to avoid accidents or mitigate their consequences. To ensure that these systems work reliably, they need to be set and calibrated with high precision to the driving direction, for example by means of the x-wheel truck d.
Furthermore, setting toe and camber angles accurately brings several economic benefits: Lower road resistance of the tires can reduce fuel costs by up to 3% and tire wear by up to 5%. Thanks to these cost savings, the x-wheel truck d pays off even for companies with a test volume of just about 200 vehicle per year.
