Tailor-made: balancing system for roller manufacturing
Darmstadt, May 2015 – Thanks to its efficient industry solution based on the universal HM 40 BU balancing machine, Schenck RoTec ensures the low-vibration running of modern conveyor rollers. Its key feature is the CAB920 SmartTouch measuring instrument with customized software and a specially designed roller protocol.
Low-friction rollers are sophisticated precision components which are indispensable in many areas such as the manufacturing of paper, foil, adhesive tape or nonwoven fabrics. The rollers are available in a number of designs made from stainless steel, steel, aluminum or carbon fiber and come with different finishes, depending on their area of application. Balancing is a crucial step in the manufacturing of conveyor rollers. This usually takes place at the end of the production process.
Stephan Frese, Sales Engineer at Schenck RoTec, explains the significance of this quality assurance measure: "The lower the unbalance of a conveyor roller, the higher its precision when performing its future task and the lower the wear on the bearings and other neighboring components. Smooth running and minimum unbalance – as well as many other aspects – are therefore the key quality, function and safety features of the rollers."
Schenck RoTec's HM 40 BU horizontal balancing machine has been used by a well-known roller manufacturer since 2005 and has been adapted regularly in line with increasing quality standards or new types of rollers. The last major upgrade in the fall of 2014, however, was a true generation leap. With the installation of the new CAB920 SmartTouch measuring instrument, the universally applicable machine received an intelligent system specifically tailored to the application.
The new measuring instrument not only offers greater accuracy thanks to intuitive menu guidance and preset routines but is also considerably more user-friendly. With the help of large entry fields, direct entry windows, animations, numerous visualizations as well as two different navigation modes, the CAB920 guides the operator safely and quickly through the entire balancing process – right through to the drilling of correction holes.
With this balancing machine upgrade Schenck RoTec has created an integrated concept that is both efficient and innovative. A highly complex balancing process has thus been transformed into a tailor-made solution and become a routine process for the quality assurance of modern low-friction rollers that is easy to understand and to manage by any operator following a short training period.
