EcoShot Meter: a piston dosing system for many types of application
Bietigheim-Bissingen, March 2016 – The EcoShot Meter, Dürr's electric piston dosing system, has been re-engineered and now offers high dosing accuracy in short cycle times, highly dynamic application and decoupling of pressure fluctuations. It is used for the application of high-viscosity media in sealing and gluing and comes in two sizes.
Typical examples of sealing applications are seam sealing, underbody protection and cosmetic seams. Gluing applications include the gluing and fitting of windows, glazed roofs, roof reinforcements, battery boxes and spare tire wells.
The EcoShot Meter is suitable for most high-viscosity media used in sealing and gluing. This means a standard model covers many types of application. The EcoShot Meter only varies in size. Thanks to its modular design, the dosing system is easy to service and offers cost benefits in the purchase and storage of spare parts. Pressure fluctuations are no longer an issue in applications using the EcoShot Meter: Dürr's electric piston dosing system acts as a buffer, thus balancing out the pressure peaks that occur in the system. This creates consistent conditions at the output of the dosing system, regardless of the conditions elsewhere.
And this is how it works: The EcoShot Meter gear motor drives a threaded spindle. The spindle nut moves a sealed piston back and forth. During filling, the motor along with the spindle, moves back and the material supply pushes the material back into the piston chamber. During dosing, a pre-defined amount of medium is moved towards the application unit.
Loading test passed with flying colors
Dürr produces the electric piston dosing system as a 300 or 600 cm3 model at its site in Wolfratshausen, Germany. Long-term trials have confirmed the long life of the system and revealed excellent results not only in terms of its dosing accuracy: "Repeat testing has revealed a dosing error of <1 percent. Even after the obligatory 1,000-hour test with a varying load profile, our EcoShot Meter looked brand new", Dürr product developer Frank Schnur is pleased to report.
Dürr is continuously working to improve its series of high-viscosity application systems and minimize pressure drops. "We have looked at the whole process for ways to improve it, from the pump through to the EcoGun applicator valve", explains Frank Schnur. For this reason Dürr has also updated the EcoGun2 3D, which is now more compact and lighter than the previous model. This applicator can thus reach the most difficult areas of the car body without any problems.
The optimized applicator design reduces pressure drop in the nozzle head by approx. 80 percent. The flow-optimized geometry of the application head is produced via 3D printing. This additive manufacturing process, whereby the component is produced by forming successive layers of aluminum powder before it receives its final finish, has now been used for the application of high-viscosity adhesives at Dürr for the first time.
