G3 Blue is faster, lighter and more ergonomic
Stollberg, December 2014 – Dürr Somac's new G3 Blue filling adapter is 20 % lighter and up to 20 % faster as well as more ergonomic and easier to maintain. It was launched in October following successful practical trials.
An operator performs up to 200 filling operations per hour in final vehicle assembly. This involves a total of 400 movements to position and remove the filling adapter, which weighs between two and four kilograms, depending on the filling medium. This physical strain on the operator is one of the reasons why Dürr Somac has completely overhauled the filling adapter.
It has a new ergonomic handle so the operator no longer has to slide his hand forward to press the start or stop buttons, as these are now in easy reach. The Ergo handle, available as an additional option, is designed to make it easier to position the adapter, especially on very low vehicle tanks. This eliminates the need to bend the wrist, thus reducing the physical strain on the operator even further.
The G3 Blue, which stands for a third-generation adapter at Dürr Somac, owes its name to the blue handle. The new design as well as the use of different materials make the adapter head more compact and 500 to 700 grams lighter than its predecessor model.
The hose package is also slimmer and – thanks to the use of new vacuum and filling hoses – 200 to 400 grams lighter, depending on the medium for which it is designed (e.g. brake fluid, refrigerant or windshield washer).
A new type of valve allowed Dürr Somac to increase the cross sections of the lines in the filling adapter, thus providing a considerably higher flow rate. In practice, this leads to a 20 % reduction in process time, depending on the medium and vehicle system.
For the first time ever, the adapter has a "memory". Its "fingerprint" is read via a USB interface, transmitting the part number, date of manufacture and service information such as the number of previous filling or maintenance operations without the need to dismantle the device.
The vacuum and pressure sensors in the adapter can be calibrated via the the USB interface. The calibration data is stored in the device itself. The calibration is therefore independent of the filling system control, and the adapter can be easily replaced.
