Teaching filling technology know-how all over the world
March 2013 – Dürr Somac Filling Academy seminars teach hands-on knowledge about all the processes and components involved in filling technology. The demand for the training courses is increasing. Primarily automobile manufacturers in the BRIC countries book courses for their employees, says Frank Kretzschmar, Product Line Manager Service at Dürr Somac.
What made you start the seminars in 2009?
When talking with our customers, we were repeatedly asked for training courses in the field of filling technology. Different technical disciplines are involved when it comes to the initial filling of a vehicle. Accordingly, you must be knowledgeable in mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, process and control engineering – but not all these fields are covered in the frame of technical vocational training. Furthermore, many OEMs are currently undergoing a generational change in which much experience is lost. This is why we established the Somac Filling Academy.
At first, you offered a two-day basic course on the fundamentals of filling technology. Now, there are advanced courses as well. What are they?
As our basic course received very positive feedback, we are now offering three additional courses: a two-day training "Maintenance and diagnostics", one day of practical training on "Maintenance of filling adapters", and for those who use our brake leak test system wIBT, the training course "Diagnostics / repair brake pedal testing".
What is the target group for this training program?
We address participants from a wide range of disciplines, from planning over maintenance and operation to quality assurance in our customers' premises.
Are all the courses in your house in Stollberg?
No. There are the training courses in Stollberg. But since the start of the Somac Filling Academy, more than 50% of the courses are offered directly in our customers' facilities in Germany, Russia, China, Romania, UK, Spain and Mexico. The demand for seminars has increased significantly, above all from the so-called BRIC states.
How does the customer benefit when its employees attend the courses?
The knowledge taught helps to minimize faults in project planning and in operation. The understanding for the technology is improved. On-target maintenance of the units is improved, troubleshooting gets faster and downtimes are significantly reduced.
How do you ensure that the course leaves a lasting impression?
Our training documentation comprises reference book with more than 200 pages in German or English. They describe all processes, components, properties of media, statutory requirements and measures for quality assurance applicable for filling technology. The seminar presentations are available in German, English, Spanish, Romanian, Russian or Chinese. The contents are updated regularly. Furthermore, each participant receives a Guide in one of the above languages comprising a summary of the essential information from the reference book.
